Has anyone explained the glove situation? why is this being talked about? did Maidana have to wear heavier gloves bc of weight?

The new gloves always come shrink wrapped but Maidana's weren't, which could suggest they had been tampered with. LE also claimed there wasn't as much padding around the knuckles.

So his team didnt question the gloves not being shrink wrapped when they received them?

Because Floyd 'maybe the best of his era' Mayweather threw a tantrum over the gloves. He ended up demanding that Maidana wear a pair of stock Everlast Gloves with maximum padding around the knuckles as opposed to an alternate set Garcia, Maidana and the Nevada commission were in agreement that they were approved under the commission's rules. The first set he wanted to wear had the colors of Argentina's flag, Floyd said no to those and they came up with another model, Floyd said no again.
The thing is that Gayweather never had crap in the contract about what gloves could be used.
Basically, he said he would not fight if Maidana did not wear the gloves he wanted him to wear. Probably would have been knocked out if he were able to wear 'puncher's' gloves.

I'm not gonna lie if my opponent had Alex Ariza on his team I'd question the hell out of anything that looked suspicious, too.

Floyd is able to do this because he has the clout. Also it seems to get inside his opponent's head every time he makes the gloves an issue.
