The great backs were always rare.
People like to say that modern football doesn't have the feature running backs, but it does. Probably at the same rate as previous years unless you go back to the 50s.
In the 90s you had Emmett, Barry, Thurman, and ??? That's about it, right? Who else was a legend of that era?
In the 2010s you have Peterson, Charles, and Lynch. Stephen Jackson is at the tail end of his career, but he was a great feature back in the 2000s. Ray Rice for a few years was pretty dominant. Frank Gore was great for a while.
