And Clemson fans are furious.

Every college coach has skeletons. It is a cutthroat and nasty business. Do I think Dabo is a cornball? Yes. Do I find his constant use of cliches and religious rhetoric a bit unnerving? Yes.

Despite that, this is a man who is smart enough or humble enough to know his strengths and weaknesses as a coach. He is one of the best recruiters in the country. As far as X's and O's, he made sure Clemson paid Morris, Venables and Scott good money to run the offense and defense. This turned Clemson from an 8-win program to a BCS bowl team to a national champion.

Dabo is an American success story. He went from abject poverty to college player to interim coach to the head coach of a national champion. He deserves credit for it, and I say this as someone who absolutely despises Clemson.
