golfer, what style of offense do yall run? whats your defensive mindset?
Posted on 12/5/08 at 11:00 am to Elleshoe
Last year we ran a simple motion-style offense with a few set plays to take advantage of the oppositions weakneses.
My favorite play is a 4-high as it takes most 6th grade defenses out of their natural positions. The money is with inbounds plays since games are such a low scoring affair and a quick 2 down low is huge.
I stick to zone defense as man coverage would screw these guys up too much. Ran a box and 1 on a few teams last year that simply had a stud who did everything. Usually frustrates a 12 year old so it worked both times...

Mercy is known for always suspiciously being a little bigger than the rest of the 8th grade teams.
This is a Joke, all of the Mercy kids are in the grade that they are supposed to be. Take a Look at STM. The Athletic Directors Son, Fou.....t, is older than my son who is in the 9th grade at Catholic High. STM is NOTORIOUS for having the oldest group of 8th graders in the Catholic Parish. This is a FACT.
Mercy's 7th grade last year, this years 8th grade worked over STM's team 4 times. STM could not ever pull out a win over the Bluejays.

Ranking 8th graders? Really?
Do you scope out the cheerleaders too and say to your boys "dude she's gonna be hot in 5 or 6 years"?

I will definitely agree with you that STM does seem to have the oldest team every year. Glad to see someone else is passionate about CSAL Basketball.

I am the point guard transfer from Catholic and all of you come out and see CHS vs. SHS in the first game of the whole CSAL, we look to beat them bad game starts at 7, on Wednsday De. 10 come out and support the bears as we look to dominate the CSAL.

I feel privileged to have an actual player post in this preseason rankings thread. Could you give us a little inside info of what your gameplan for the big game against #6 Sacred Heart is?

I think your answer is in your original post on this thread...

They look to play tough in your face D and run their complex motion sets on offense.
It is obvious that this thread has a big following every year from the 8th grade coaches and players. The once underground world of 8th grade CSAL basketball is now coming to the forefront of the sports scene in Baton Rouge.

All I want to know is where the Mighty Fighting Pelicans of Most Blessed Sacrament stack up against this year's competition.
Pelican Pride.
Pelican Pride.

I coached Aloysius 5th grade last year and I will tell you they have a 6th grader who is the best basketball player I've seen. He is the son of I believe Loyola (New Orleans) basketball coach and I have seen him hit 5 or 6 threes in a row with a hand in his face. Not to mention he was the tallest guy on the court every game they played. He played PG. Sick. Wish he had been on my team.
