Well frick… I honestly don’t ever remember hearing anyone get these before in all my years of watching F1 and now two weeks in a row someone has gotten one.

When they give a 5-sec penalty for an early race incident, it doesn't hurt as much as it should because you don't have to take it until the first pit stop. If you have to give up X number of positions immediately because that's 5 seconds back right now (very early in the race), that's a massively bigger penalty.

Not sure a time value of money concept applies to a time penalty. 5 seconds is 5 seconds in my view. Same as if they just did an auto 5 seconds tagged to the end.

Nah, then you never have to pass the person in front for the lead. Canada 2018(?) with HAM/VET is an example.

This hard from the start really backfired on HAM.

No my point is that early in the race, 5 seconds served immediately means you fall behind more cars. Every extra car you fall behind is more time wasted following them and trying to pass them. 5 seconds tacked on at the end of the race is the best possible scenario for the driver.

But in any case a 5 or 10 second penalty served at the next pit stop is way better than the old drive-through or stop-and-go penalty.

How shite is the tire deg if we can't get mediums to last more than 10 laps? Everyone talking about how shite the hards are and Haas speedruns putting them on.

Fair enough on traffic point

Alonso is fast, but not Bulls fast, so if he keeps doing what he’s doing, the penalty could be a moot point on where he finishes (potentially). Podium still in play.

I love it, the more pits the better. If some cars and some drivers are easier on the tires, maybe we'll see some cool unexpected results.

If Hamilton is complaining that means the hard are where it's at and everyone should put them on.
