Yes you do.
There have been several platforms that have been destroyed by faulty price feeds and flash crashes using centralized oracles. Celsius only works because it’s using Chainlink
quote:
The separation of these problems (data delivery vs. data quality) has been applied to the architecture of the decentralized oracle networks powering Chainlink’s Price Reference Data, which are the most used oracles in DeFi and power over 90% of Ethereum’s decentralized derivatives market. Based on the success of these oracle networks in providing high-quality data to live applications, we've identified five essential components to solving the data quality problem.

no you don't
I literally use Celsius and do not own chainlink

Try again
LINK
That’s the thing it is such the standard that people don’t even realize it’s being used yet node operators are being paid tons of Link for the data they provide each day

no. let me clarify, you don't need the chainlink token to use Celsius.

Celsius doesn’t exist in its current form without Chainlink.
Yes you as the buyer does not need the token however the oracle network does not work without that token

yes I realize but what is the point of owning an unnecessary utility token besides number go up?
like you even said you have price your selling it all and then retiring
so it serves no purpose (from what I can see) besides holding it until you can sell onto the next sucker
maybe they pivot and the token serves some function? but right now I'm not seeing it

Because the next stage is staking and collateral. This brings the big money into the game. And yes you need the token to transfer the data. Business are chomping at the bit to sell data. “Data is the new oil” you already see it with the parent company of T Mobile deciding to become Chainlink node operators. Just as BTC has a limited supply, so does Chainlink. And to play with the big boys you need the asset. So if a Fortune 500 company wants to buy my Link then they will pay for it. And they want my link because the use cases and profits of selling data, eliminating a middle man , and utilizing the true potential of a trustless smart contractis worth way more to them then paying for a few Link tokens.

This wasn’t my intention of this thread. I would rather talk about the future of DeFi and educate people about its potential and how it won’t have to play by Wall Streets rules

Have you missed that fedgov has the full support of isps, intel and big government to shutdown things just like this?
Wall Street didn’t funnel all that cash to Joe and his backers to let this happen.
Do you know what decentralized means?

sure you can stake it but several coins can be staked right now
and we don't need a token to buy and sell data. the software is valuable yes, but the token serves zero utility (unless they pivot and they have hired a lot of smart people so maybe they will)

by spamming chainlink ?
sure thing

You keep saying that but the token is used for :
Transfer and Call function (ERC 667 token)
Pay for the Data
Collateral and incentive for not providing fricked up data
Seriously argue this out in the crypto thread. After today the discussion should be on Decentralized Finance and how it creates an environment where the shite from today can’t happen and transparency on the blockchain for trading and moving money

I do not need a token to use those features and you started the thread so I'm talking about it here

Well the over 400 integrations using Chainlink do.
Posted on 1/28/21 at 7:30 pm to CE Tiger
celsius holds chainlink tokens so it can function?
interesting
interesting

Someone’s looking to poke the bear but I’ll play along. The distinction you are trying to make in that the end user of the program does not need to use the token does mean the token is worthless. We are using this website right now only because of many services we do not use directly(hosting, cloud etc). Without those things this website doesn’t work and you couldn’t use it.

huh? why cant we talk about it

read that again and tell me it makes any sense

my point exactly

Chainlink Market
Go to this link to see the oracle network in action
I’m not gonna go dig for gold but if someone wants to buy my shovel I’ll be happy to sell them. Same with the link token

Chainlink brings smart contracts and blockchain solutions to life by making external data available on-chain. In the Market, discover the most decentralized on-chain reference data, and find the nodes and data sources that power each feed. Monitor the update frequency of feeds, the performance of nodes and understand the network economics, all within the Market.
