Got some money put away going towards a ROTH IRA. haven't invested it in anything, yet. i saw BGSAX and noticed that it has a little bit of everything in it. minimum investment is $1000.

Just curious what would justify the extremely high expense ratio of l.2% over similar funds like FTEC or VITAX

i should probably mention that i'm dumb when it comes to mutual funds. i just noticed that it had amazon, apple, google, microsoft, and some tesla associated with it.

Baw, there are plenty funds out there with those as their top holdings. I, too, am dumb when it comes to investing. I’ve made a decent amount playing with stocks but I’ve lost more than I’ve made which is why I stick to funds. Let the experts give you exposure to stocks you want but readjust for you when one stock looks to be a big drag long term.

My advice is stick to growth, S&P 500, and a balanced fund like one of the target date ones. If you’re younger than 40, maybe 50% S&P, 25% US growth, and 25% target date. Then start to take from S&P and US growth to pump more into the target date as you get older. Then when you are ready to retire, maybe put it all into the target date fund OR a good retirement income fund. Again, I’m dumb so maybe someone else can jump in with better advice for allocating weight among mutual funds.
