Walmart has taken some of their 250 billion dollars in sales and invested it in improving their own line of products. This initiative has involved extensive product and consumer testing, the introduction of new formulas and products, a staffed number for consumers’ product inquiries, the ability to rate and review their products on on their site, and of course new packaging.

It sounds like they forgot why people buy generic brands in the first place, price, especially in a recession.

Wal-Mart, what the HECK happened?
i stopped shopping at wal mart a year ago .. i go to hi nabor and ralph's market (the local guys that pay local taxes) and have not noticed a whole lot of difference between them and what i was paying for shite at wal mart ... plus, i don't have to deal with the WIC card carrying, muffin top, tatted out trailer trash crowd either ..

We must live close by.

Ralph's is nearly the same price on milk and other stables. Plus, after Gustav, Ralph brought in generators and opened while my friend neighborhood Wal-Mart stayed closed. I appreciate the effort.

If you have a Publix nearby, use the coupons. They are ridiculous. My wife and all her friends are doing it and they are getting like $200 worth of groceries for $100. It's helped a lot. We don't even go to Wal-Mart anymore.

'I'm ashamed to admit this, but one day I was remembering the Made In America signs and I thought,"Wonder if I can even find one non-food item sold in Walmart that is made in America".

Couldn't find one in the clothing department. "Old Glory" used to be made in America, Not anymore.

Didn't find any made in America stuff on the retail isles either. All China.

Sad really. Not one single item was made in America.'

That might be changing soon...maybe not at a Wal Mart near you but at some manufacturers and eventually even in the grocery check out aisles...Change is in the wind. Suddenly the US Gov is concerned about US job losses to foreign countries. Tariffs and trade barriers often lead to other actions. Does this mean that I won't be able to find Raman Noodles at Publix? Does this mean that cheap Chinese cars that get 65mpg and accelerate through a quarter mile in a mere 214 seconds won't be finding their way to American shores? Inquiring minds want to know what is happening to globalization! There are a few quality products still made in America...some models of Red Wing Boots, some Oshkosh clothing, some Carhartt clothing, etc. Notice these products are made for guys doing hard work and most of the crap clothing Wal Fart sells will not stand up to hard work very long.

'Obama to hit China with tough tariff on tires'

'WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Obama administration will impose stiff tariffs on imports of Chinese-made tires after finding that a surge of imports has disrupted the U.S. domestic market.'

'"The president decided to remedy the clear disruption to the U.S. tire industry based on the facts and the law in this case," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement.

In the first year, the tariff will be 35%, falling to 30% in the second year and 25% in the third year. The tariff would be on top of the current 4% tariff. The tariffs will take effect in 15 days.

U.S. imports of Chinese tires have risen from 14.6 million in 2004 to 46 million last year, accounting for about one-sixth of the U.S. market. Four U.S. tire plants have closed in the past two years, and more than 5,000 workers have lost their jobs.'
