I'm so confused by my ledger. I opened the app and see I moved some there.
How is sending to ledger any different than a hot wallet or on an exchange?

I'm not understanding the point of my ledger. Can people hack ledger live just like other places?

I keep the bulk of mine on a hard wallet (basically a usb drive) stored in an incredibly heavy safe. I use a ledger, but there are far better options around now and I may look into another one.
I’ll keep roughly 80% on that. I’ll take it out and put more into it every four months or so.
It’s the best way to store it by far.

I suppose it's possible, but it's unlikely.
In cold storage, the private keys are stored on the ledger and are not connected to the internet. It's more secure than a hot wallet like Metamask, and you actually own your private keys unlike centralized exchanges.

What cold options do you like?

And ledger is considered cold? Even though there’s an app.

Nothing is stored on the app. It’s more like looking at your bank account balance

Yes. Your crypto is on the blockchain, but your private keys are on the ledger. Even though you can see your crypto on ledger live, you can't move it without the ledger itself.

I use a ledger nano. Ive been told there are better options out there now.

When people say “not your keys, not your coins” do they mean the passcode and the recovery phrase?
Posted on 12/6/24 at 4:17 pm to Billy Blanks
And if you lose a hard wallet, can you access the crypto if you get another wallet with the recovery phrase from the first wallet?

Yes. Your coins are not stored in the device.
