Seeking advice or suggestions - Wife and I plan on building a new home in 3-4 years

What’s some advice that some of you would throw my way? What are some things you wish you would have done better in the year(s) leading up to building a new home?
We moved into our house (new build) 2 years ago, so we both have a grasp on things we DONT like and WOULD like in our next home. We are just growing out of this house with me having one of the rooms as my home office and having 1 child in the 3rd room. A 2nd child could complicate things.
I think I have a pretty good grasp on what to have included in the new build in a technological sense, although things could be different in 3 years.
What are some financial suggestions / advice?

- Build much less than u can afford .
- Plan your note around a 15 year note.
- Pay more monthly when u can.
- Don’t pay PMI.
- Have a future kid share a room w ur current kid. in your current home as long as possible.

Corner bath tubs are useless
Wire every room for wifi and 2 network drops on at least 2 walls per room.

Dave? That you?
Bwahahahaha.
He asked for some advice, I gave it. Knew it would be frowned upon. I guess a more simple piece of advice would be: “Don’t be house-poor.”

And many more power outlets than u think u need. We have them in the floor, baseboards, & under mounts in kitchen. Best decision ever

I see zero point in wiring for a network.....the only thing plugged into the wall in my house in a wireless router.
ETA. Closets, make damn sure you have plenty of storage. Find ways to incorporate them into hallways, near exit doors, and make sure bedrooms have sufficiently large closets.

We just down sized after becoming empty nesters and I agree. Our smaller home lacks storage space. I would make kitchen cabinets extend to the ceiling. That space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling is dead space that just collects dust. Might as well use it to store items rarely used.

My architect once told me that building a new house often led to divorce. He was right.

I have one TV in my house out of five that have connection issues. 4/5 are hard wired. I'll let you figure out which one I have issues with and how your wireless router is going to handle more than 2 tvs streaming 4K at once.
Oh, and I've only been in network cabling for 23 years, so what do I know?

Shawn, I am definitely wiring CAT6 into every room. I like the idea of wiring it to two different walls, too.
Shawn, do you see any issue with running a CAT6 / Receptacle stacker? Do you think the high voltage wire will interfere with the CAT6?
