Not really. I'm making more than my friend who is a civil engineer. Bonus is: I'm not doing civil engineering work.

Of many fields. Not oilfield services myself, but that is my family business.

So is the Harvard grad working in oilfield services as an accountant? I'm trying to figure out why you think that's a relevant comparison simply because the person went to Harvard.

This.

Because its the same geographical region and its the same profession?
That's not exactly a leap in logic.

Its not, I simply asked you if you were using a job that was equivalent man. You just said "I hired a Harvard grad" not "I hired a Harvard grad who works in oilfield services as an accountant who does a bunch of stuff that other entry level accountants don't typically do like manage 5 people and report directly to the owners with little or no supervision."

It's not like the op has/had any experience in supervising people in an accounting setting either.
I guess you put stock into his current duties as if another candidate would be questionable at them, and I do not. We'll just have to disagree on that.
My position is that if you stick a bright, capable new grad in his spot, then they would be comparable and those can be had for cheap.
Once again, not bashing. Just my experience

Meh. U work hard, you move up. Thus is life.
An ivy degree will open doors that most won't have open in life though.

You are right, agree to disagree.

Wait so is this Harvard grad an accountant?
Posted on 9/21/11 at 6:46 pm to TheHiddenFlask
Double post.
Yes, accountant.

im in construction. we pay someone 50-60k to do what you do. at my last job i used to do most of the stuff you do (didn't prepare quarterly and year end stuff, and no ap/ar/payroll data entry). i also managed jobs, layout, and bid work for 60k. I was definitely under paid.
Posted on 9/21/11 at 7:46 pm to TortiousTiger
Are you sure about that? I'm almost 100% positive that Harvard doesn't have an undergrad accounting program. I'm assuming MPA = Public Administration and not Public Accounting, as they definitely don't have one of those.

He said big east undergrad.
