you didn't get any 401k or roths?

Maybe I wasn't clear, yes we each had our own 401k, and each had our own roth.

After we divorced and she went off to grad school, she thanked me profusely for helping with her with her finances and told me that she never would have saved that much money if it weren't for my help. We're still good friends.

The reason I had for having seperate accounts was that I had gotten in trouble in college with bouncing checks, so once I cleared that up I became maniacal about my ledger. I just didn't understand how to maintain an account that two people were drawing from. If I were to do it again, I would probably just have two joint accounts so that each could draw from the other if need be. It was just a matter of accounting for me.

Seems crazy to me. Buying a big arse boat is a family decision, not some discretionary whim.

That's how my family sees it, too. We both have "play" money budgeted each month, and purchases under a set amount don't need spouse approval, but a big arse boat would not fall into that category.

it's all relative.

getting married a month from yesterday. i think we'll probably each have an account of our own and then we'll have a joint account.

i'm not sure why some of you all are getting so worked up about this. if whatever a couple is doing works for them, then it works for them.
