So why ridicule someone because they are doing what they want to do with their money?
Also everone assumes that they were always poor too. If there was a lawsuit you can be assured it was probably years where he has to wait with no income and no ability to try to work.
There is an obvious difference between liking to fish and it being the only thing you have left to do in this world that you can enjoy.

When you've never had money, moderate amounts of money seem much bigger than they are.
But again do we even know the OPs client was always poor?
How many people could sustain 6-7 years of unemployment while they wait on a drawn out settlement or court and not become poor? Not many. Sure they may have been dirt poor and this was their ticket out of that and they are failing at it. But thats a big assumption.

Let's plug into human nature, then: it's easy to be frivolous with money you didn't bust your arse to earn.

I think you missed the part where the OP suspected the lawsuit was frivolous in the first place.

Im sorry the OP is a financial person that is on a board talking about his clients business in an insulting manner. Forgive me if I dont believe that he knows the details of court case of the client.

This is very true.
Kind of like if you walked into a casino and pulled a lever and won 5k. How many people think about putting that into savings vs buying everyone in the party as steak dinner?

Exactly. Easy to spend a dollar that doesn't have your sweat stains on it.
