pay check question and taxes
i am head of household with my SO and 2 children. We are engaged not married.

I have always filed as a single on my paycheck filing status

What would you change it to or would you leave it?

Just to clarify, your SO has nothing to do with head of household status, unless she is also your dependent.

bump... how should I file?

Currently I am looking at getting 10K or more back in tax returns.

After reading this board, you dont want to do it that way. You want to pay zero and get back as little as possible from what I gathered

re: pay check question and taxes
it was around 9000 last year... Obviously Im doing it wrong which is why i am asking for yalls help.

I personally would rather have more per paycheck and less return.

Do i need to change from being single to head of household? Is it as simple as that?

re: pay check question and taxes
My original post was sarcastic because it’s a tax refund. The return is what you file.

If you overpaid $10k in 2018 and your filing was legal and correct, you need to simply adjust your withholding to an amount that reflects the accurate amount of taxes owed.

You’ll need to consult a withholding table. To determine the right filing status.
