Got it. Also, I watched that linked video and they talked about hex maybe not being the best asset to trade for PLS pre bridge and a stable coin like USDT might be a safer play. Anyone have thoughts on that?

They will all have a fee, it’s the Ethereum gas fee to run the network. MetaMask just adds a little to it to do it within the platform.

aight, so all of my VET and VTHO has been sold to USD>ETH and all of that ETH is now in MM. i go to uniswap and search for HEX. it asks me to "import" since it's not in list. is this normal? MM appears to be linked to uniswap so it should put the HEX in my MM wallet, right?

Yes, that's normal. Use the contract address I listed a few posts back if you need.

Ok should be g2g. I swapped 1 Eth for hex. Is there a way to sign up for alert as to when pulse opens up? I wanna jump on it asap

see that's where it gets sketchy... i've always heard never jump in on day 1. you want to give it 30-60 days because the whales will take profits during those times. and that's whether it's a stock or a new cryptocoin. jumping into COIN (coinbase stock) bit me in the arse this way. i bought one share while it was $430. it's like $120 or so now.

It's better because you can just buy the stable coin on Coinbase or Binance or wherever you buy and send them to Metamask. With HEX you have to do an extra swap after you get your coins to Metamask, which adds a transaction fee.
The flipside is that HEX could increase in value, or it could decrease, and you can stake but you aren't going to earn much if you're only holding it for a few weeks waiting for the bridge to go live.
