I'm terrible at math but figured someone could give us a lesson.

Business needs 23 employees at all time. All employees can work a maximum of 29 hours. Hours needed employees would be 12 hours a day 7 days a week (84 hours a week). How many employees is the minimum amount you need?

84 hours * 23 employees required / 29 hours per employee = 66.6 employees, minimum

I'm reading this as 23 employees for every 12 hr shift round the clock.

That's 7728 work hrs per week.

29 hrs per employee so

29x=7728

7728/29=266.5 employees

Hire a midget

If only 12 hrs of operations per day then it's what Upperdecker said.

Depends on how long the minimum shifts are for. These assumptions for min. employees are for unconventional working shifts with the 29 hour cutoff. Sure its a theoretical minimum but its pretty useless because you could never pull it off.

Are you running 12 hour shifts? Because then that's only 24 hours per employee, I doubt anyone is coming in for just another 5 hours one day.

I'd assume you need to fill 23 x 7 = 161 12-hour shifts a week and each employee could only work 2 shifts so 81 employees. Then you'd have some cushion of 5 hours on each employee to backfill hours missed by other people.

Your buddy trying to get under some sort of healthcare provision threshold or something?

Better question, how are you going to find 23 adults who are willing to work less than 30 hours and have no benefits? Going to be a ton of turnover. Hope this is a restaurant and you are not drug testing.

Good point. OP better add on 5 employees minimum, since he's going to be dealing with low quality workers who will be completely unreliable

don't most of these laws go into affect at 50 employees? Anyways, are all 23 equal? Are you just picking corn and peas?
