SATNIGHTS, good luck if they allow it, but even if they don't you literally do not need to. Go to Data Camp, sign up. There are 9 free modules. The class is basically going over these 9 free modules and not too much more.

I totally agree. Auditing the class would be a waste of time, even if it was free to do so. The only value in ISDS 710 is that you get credit towards a degree for taking a free online course.

I'd also throw out that you might consider doing the Python track in DataCamp instead of the R camp. Python is more "business" friendly, R is more academic and statistician friendly. If I was doing DataCamp on my own I'd be doing the Python track.

Lin's ISDS 705 is a maximum 8 hour PER TEST course. There are 3 tests, so about 24 hours worth of work over the 7 weeks. I think I spent about 15-20 hours and still got an A. The grade is based on the three tests and nothing else.

That's maximum. I wrote a pretty detailed guide to his class a little while back so you can dig it up. It's a high school level IS class, with most material appropriate for a class in the mid 90's. If I remember correctly, the text was last updated in 2007, you know... the year the iPhone came out and started a cascade of events that have completely changed the face of IS. None of that is covered though.

The weirdest part to me is having us complete the DC assignments on weeks where they aren’t part of the test. Like last week we spent so much time on the apply family but weren’t tested on it at all. I know the concept is that everything builds but I feel horrible for the people who have absolutely zero stats/programming backgrounds.

Speaking of which, do we have information on this project yet? I'd love to get a head start on it.

I think he said week 3? Or was it 4? Hopefully he lets us know something by the end of the week. I'd also like to know what the heck it is and work on it whenever I have time.

Once again, GeauxUF is spot on. I should note that I spent the entire day talking with actual analysts at work and I mentioned R and Python. When I said the word "Python", their eyes lit up and they were really interested if I was learning it. Of course, I had to say that I was only going through R, and they lost interest. Haha.

I believe you have to pay for the Python courses, but Data Camp is pretty wallet friendly. I think it's less than $30/month and you can learn at your own speed. If you take it after you're done with the MBA program, you could focus on it.

The funny thing is that lapply/sapply/vapply wasn't assigned at all, but you end up doing the work if you keep chugging along on DataCamp. Darrat mentions in one of the Moodle class threads that lapply/sapply/vapply was not part of the course material. It's not very easy to match up exactly what is assigned in Moodle to what you are actually assigned in DataCamp.

EDIT: I should throw out that the lapply/sapply/vapply functions may come in very handy for the final project. It is the equivalent of "map" functions in JavaScript or Python.

That is funny. What a mess this is so far...I think the concept of the class could work but he’s going to have to do some tweaking for sure.

It's not available for me either. I emailed him but no response...I know he said that he would be out of town until Sunday, hope he's okay. What should we do? Do we contact an admin or something?

@jvanmol I was wondering that myself. O'Donnell said he was going out of town on Thursday and wouldn't be available...Maybe he is running late with his return trip.

Currently taking FIN 701 with Choi and I have gotten 100's on everything besides Test 2, I got a 95. Very very easy. Study questions are pretty much the same questions on the tests.

Glinda, we are the guinea pigs for this program, unfortunately. He is just going straight off the book that someone else wrote, in the order they devised. With luck, he will hopefully tweak the order for future students.

I saw that post along with another one.

My only concern is that the only two posters I could find, had only 5 and 7 posts respectively... mainly saying how easy/good Choi is. They could have just as easily been Choi in disguise

I don't have a choice except to take Choi, due to the lack of options in AP 2. I'll leave feedback after the class, and just hope that I don't regret it.

I have Choi now for FIN730. So far, he is active in the forums, quick to answer any questions. The workload is reasonable and he provides PPT, extra resources and practice problems.
That said, it is quite a bit of content to cover and my background in finance helps.
