Your solution requires both parties to download alternative apps to communicate via messaging. It places a burden on the consumer especially in the US where the native messaging apps seem to be the primary means of sending messages not to mention that capability is a paid for feature of your cell plan.

Downloading an app is a burden?

Wow

No wonder you complain about Apple.
George Jetson pushing 3 buttons is a burden.

One could argue that, especially in the US where Apple commands a substantial and rapidly growing share of the cellphone market with its devices

Is Apple growing market share?
I've read that it is decreasing.

Based on your post i previously quoted, you think they should be able to do that. That companies should be able to employ anti-competitive tactics to block out competitors and force consumers to purchase their goods or services at prices based on barriers to entry as opposed to a fair market value of those goods and services, upheld by a level competitive landscape. That's your prerogative and you're entitled to it. But, its anti-consumer.

If I don't like Apple, I get Samsung.
The landscape is level.

I've never had Apple. Apple doesn't force me to do anything. And that is why they are not monopolistic.

The market is cellphones and Apple commands a substantial share and maybe even a wide majority of that market in the US, pending where you get your numbers.

60% is substantial.
But it is actually far from a monopoly.
And the stock reports I have read are explicit that Apple is not growing.

seamless native messaging between all consumers is an objective win for consumers

It is seamless to me.
Seamless to most Android owners, I reckon.
It feels like you have a stick up your butt regarding Apple and are conflating personal emotions with antitrust violations.
