I am married and have 1 stepchild(we are not claiming her, it's the ex-husbands turn this year). My wife makes much less than I do. Together we make around 135k.
I claim 2 allowances and after doing our taxes, We owe $3100 federal.
Last year I claimed 3 and we owed some money so I dropped it to 2. But now I owe much more. Do I really need to claim 0 to owe no taxes?
Any help?

Family of 3. I claim 2 from Jan to Aug, and then 3 from Aug to Dec.

At the most, I owe about $300 every year. But I like to keep more of my money from my paycheck.

I only claimed one. Have just one child. Wife and I combine for around $130k. We got back $3200. Wish I would have claimed more, since I believe she claims none.
