From the time I submit everything to LegalZoom to the time it's effective, how long does that typically take? Can I trust their claim of 30 business days?

Also, at what point do I have to start paying estimated taxes - starting the effective date of the LCC formation or the date I make my first dollar?

You can do it all yourself on the Secretary of State website.

the length of time it takes is mostly dependent on the governing entity. Usually you can do it yourself.

I do not recommend using legal zoom.

Pay an attorney in your state to set up the entity correctly.

If it is a single member llc, form it yourself.

If you form the entity yourself on the La. secretary of state website, it can take as little as 1 day depending on how busy they are, and not more than 3 days at worst.

Took me 20 minutes on the SOS website 3 months ago. I had an email with my LLC attached the next day. Do not use Legal zoom. Get a local attorney to write it up. Shouldn't cost more than $500 total unless it's really complicated.

The Sec. of State recently changed the process of forming LLC's.

You now have to go to this Geauxbiz site, set up an account, reserve the LLC name you want, go to the IRS site and apply for and EIN, then convert the LLC from a reservation to a formation.

You have to get an EIN regardless of being a single member LLC that treats the LLC as a dis-regarded entity. It's ridiculous.

They really need to change this back to the old way.

Basically one day, but to do it right with a Tax id as well, that will take 2 at the most. And you want a tax id for teh llc, that gives you the tools to do banking and other legal stuff and not use personal accounts. After all, the whole purpose of the llc is to protect your personal assets.
