And for those who worry about the somewhat arbitrary market premium assigned to gold by mere historical convention, there is always the option to invest in gold coins that have their value backed by more practical, edible commodities...

If you truly believe this I suggest going to TreasuryDirect and researching how the inflation factor applied to TIPS is really calculated. This is coming from the guy that bought 30-year TIPS on 2/17/2011 at auction.
