The president is more on the administrative side - he is in charge of the government, but reports to the Supreme Leader. They also have a judicial branch that also reports to the Supreme Leader.

Since the Supreme Leader is dead, or MIA, I think we are hoping that we will be dealing with the President of Iran and that he is willing to be more reasonable and willing to cooperate, as the highest elected official in the country.

I wonder about this as well. Is there anyone alive on the civilian side who has the authority to force the Republican Guards to stand down.
Have seen a couple of interviews where Trump insists that Iran give up the enriched uranium.
