Curious if trump was always pro markets and reflected as such. It seems like from Jan to dec 2016 the trend was pretty linear throughout. If the businesses in US assumed Hillary was going to be president till the week/ night of then I thought I would see a spike. Does the candidate have any real influence on the market the week of election?

Based on information available to public, Hillary had it in the bag till she didn’t yet stocks performed regardless

Hillary had tons of Wall Street bankers who gave her the nomination over over Bernie so they were comfortable she wasn’t going to considerably rock the boat.

Same story now with Biden.

Trump was a surprise, but a healthy surprise for the market because he even more aggressively pro-business than Hillary.

ETA: Markets were pretty volatile election night.

Had a couple of hardcore analysts kinda switching parties because they are tired of the volatility. These were pretty heavily GOP guys and still are CFA types with big fund management in senior leadership. Makes their job incredibly difficult and they think the long term outlook works better with Joe. This was more them caring about having to work less tho it seemed.

I really need you to think about this - Republican Senate means a bazooka of stimulus. Democrat run Senate means a MOAB of stimulus. You think the market likes consumption or more consumption? Downside is inflation but they'll find a way to tell us our food quality went up at the same rate
