Developing my own website

I'm looking into starting my own LLC and my business will primarily provide services via my own website. I not giving any details about the business idea itself, but it will be transaction intensive....hopefully.
I used to be a programmer, but I haven't done any real programming in a few years. That being said I'm looking into getting an IT consulting company to develop the site for me.
Are there any IT consulting companies in the south LA area that you would highly recommend? What are their hourly rates? I'm also willing to look into companies in Houston.

What makes your business special? Is this a local play? How do you plan to drive people to your web site? The internet isn't a build and they will come deal and I find that most people go wrong by focusing too much on answering the technical questions and not enough on answering the general business and marketing questions.
If this is nothing more than taking widget orders from a web site you might be able to get away with the standard template built sites with shopping carts that most web hosts provide these days. If you are needing a more complete solution that would integrate order placement and fulfulliment then you probably should contact an IT consultant.

I have an MBA so I'm know how to write a business plan. I just need help with the programming and design of the website. I have the architecture planned out fairly well but open to suggestions. No, I'm not simply selling widgets via a website.

if you're really on a budget, sign up on elance and bid out the work. You can get stuff done in India, Indonesia, Phillipines, etc., real cheap. You can find experience in pretty much any platform.

Good. Like I said, that's the biggest failing of many new web sites, unrealistic goals and insufficient business planning. Good luck
