So for the chase ink card, you don't have to register it under a business?

I believe they ask your gross sales. Be honest. $0 in sales does not exclude you from consideration.

I got you, I did not know if there was some rule about how long you should maintain the accounts to reduce the effects of canceling.
The only "rule" really is bank to bank. Each bank at some point is going to determine if you are a valuable customer or not. If you apply for 5 Chase cards in a year and cancel all 5 when the year is up, I imagine card #6 will be difficult to get.
However, if you get 5 cards but maintain 3 of them and are cycling out 2 of them, you probably won't have much issue.
For instance from Chase I have/had:
Chase Ink Plus 50k(Downgraded to avoid fee)
Ink Bold 60k (Fee hasn't come up yet)
Sapphire Preferred 40k(Downgraded then canceled, my fiancee has a downgraded version that we use for dining. Will apply to get bonus again in a year or so)
Chase Freedom 10k (Keeper at No Fee with 5X bonus categories, fiancee has one too)
Chase Southwest (Got it for the 50k miles to go to some weddings, fiancee has one too)
Chase United Card (Got the 55k offer and canceled before fee)
Will try to get British Airways card right before they stop offering the first year free deal.
Some of these I put spend on after the bonus just a little bit, some I didn't, but having keepers should help. Plus, things like income can be overriding factors, obviously if you are high income you are more likely to be accepted, etc.
This post made me Google search if "canceled" has one "L" or two "Ls." Apparently its a British/American thing.

Regarding the American Airlines route:
From this thread it appears there is a US Air card offering 50k points for an $89 fee.
There is also a Citi AA Advantage card with 50k points.
Can you combine the two to fly internationally after the merger? It sounded to me like the second card was only good for domestic trips.

Right now we each have Chase sapphire and each have Marriott. She also has Chase freedom, which we will keep. I want to pull the trigger and each get usair 50k and AA 50k cards. My only concern about cancelling is I have a rather short credit history.
I want the miles to plan a trip to Japan next year, is AA a decent carrier to attempt this with?

They are both good for domestic & international travel.

It's hard to give an accurate answer without knowing more about your credit profile.

Definitely. 50k points gets you a RT to Japan Oct-Apr.

Awesome, I just paid all the yearly fees, so I'll go ahead and apply for the new ones and keep the current ones until the fee is due again. Thanks for the advice, I'm sure I'll be pestering you when I start planning the trip.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the best international values for AA points?
Additonally, I got approved instantly for the Citi advantage, but got put on hold for US Air card. Should I call them or does that not matter?

I always call. Just have something intelligent to say about the product.
Look up how the US Airways card benefits will convert to a special American Airlines Aviator card that only Barclay's will have (since they won't be able to issue new AA cards).
Then, I'd probably go with something like, "I'd prefer to have this card with Barclay's with its benefits (name a few that are different).
They may not even ask, and might just reconfirm income and all that jazz though. But always good to have it in your pocket.

All of the Saver off-season awards are a good value IMO. It really depends on if you want to fly economy or in a premium cabin. Premium cabins are when you really start to see some big value for your points. If you don't really collect points relatively easily or quickly, economy is probably fine and still gets good value.
I think two of the best values of AA miles are first class on Cathay Pacific to Asia, or business class to Tahiti on Air Tahiti Nui.

I never call but that's me. After a day or two I get an email that says that I'm approved and the card comes later.

A reason to keep the CSP is to have a premium Chase card that you can transfer points to from other Chase cards like the Freedom and that you can transfer points out or get a bonus on redemption like the CSP.

got a credit limit increase on my Barclaycard Arrival today. Went from $4000 to $7000. Thought it was an error at when I had so much extra money available

Amex Old Blue Cash gave me a credit increase this AM too, unsolicited. Strange as I really thought this card was going the route of the dodo bird.

You know of an easier way to check Bangkok Airways award availability than calling JAL?
I called JAL last week to check and there were seats from BKK to REP.
Transferred 10,000 points from Starwood to JAL. Takes a stupid week. Call and no availability.
Going to be annoying to call JAL every other day even if they are easy to work with.
