I know. I was waiting do a mini Apporama here soon, and this popped up, so I had to jump on it.
It really is hard to pass up.

Nice! I only have 1,200 more in spending to get mine. Did they make you wait a billing cycle like amex does?

Prob gonna add an authorized user in the next few weeks to get the additional 5k.
I already did that and her card should be here soon. There's no minimum on what she has to spend is there? I was thinking just let her go buy a tank of gas or something then take it back

But she is mesmerized by mine so I might have a fight on my hands.

I'm not gonna lie, I went to the website and caught myself starting to fill out the damned form.
I'm thinking I'm going to sit on the sidelines about 90-180 days then do another little apporama.

No, I opened the card Nov 27th I think and only received one bill. I just noticed the point pop up the other day.

From what I have read and others can correct me. You don't even need to use the card. If I add my so, I already told her it is going in the safe and I will use it from time to time if need be

My only concern is it will show up as a line of credit on her score. I don't want that to hurt her. Having said that, Im curious as to how it does, bc I was going through to do it the other day and it didn't ask for her SSN or anything

Yeah, I thought that was weird too. I'll know in the next few days when it arrives. I'll try to remember and tell you what it says.
As far as hurting her credit, I can't see it as too bad because I'm just going to run it up to 3 grand and the day it bills I'm paying it in full. So yeah, you use a significant portion of the available credit but it will only be for a very short time.

From what I have read, I don't think the balance or anything like that matters as you are ultimately responsible for the debt. It just shows up as "Authorized User Account". So I don't know how that is taken into account on someones credit report

I'm sure someone here knows.

When I added my fiancé to my Amex it asked me for her SS#
I don't know the answers to your questions though

I've built my 19 yr old son's credit by adding him as an authorized user on a very old cap one credit card. One of the first I've ever had and only rarely buy something with it to keep it active. His credit score is higher than mine and I know for a fact that the balance shows on his credit report. I have him set up with a myfico acct as well and monitor it almost as much as mine. The little shite has a 760 credit score

Chase Sapphire def does not... Just as Htown said... I have no clue how it doesn't.

Just did a quick google... It looks like once you add them, the full credit history of that card reports on them. So if you've had the card for 10yrs and add them, they get the full credit of all of the monthly payments.
It looks like the only downfall is if they otherwise don't have a lot of credit established and you have a boatload on that card, it will throw their debt/available credit way off.
So if they had a total of 2k beforehand and you add them on your 10k card, but have 8k charged on it. Even though you may have another 25k available on other cards and have a low %, it will look like they are at like 80%.

My "oldest credit line" is 1981... I wasn't born until 1985

Very true. That is why I was picky about what I wanted to add him to. That card has impeccable payment history and like I said, I only put about $10-20 on it every month and pay it immediately when it bills.
I definitely wouldn't add him to the CSP as I'm about to charge it a lot to get the points. But then again, I just googled and see there is a difference between an authorized user and a joint user. I think I must have added him as a joint user.
Seems like the SO purchase on the CSP won't do anything to their credit score. I'm not totally sure on that though (yet).

The if it shows or doesn't show thing seems to be mixed.
Amex definitely asks for an SSN for Authorized Users and on creditkarma, it shows on my fiancee's report.
Chase seems all kinds of fricked up with what shows and doesn't. Makes me head hurt.
As for this it definitely caused havoc with my fiancee's score. For the good side, she shows around 100k in limits because her dad had her on the "family card."
He makes really good money, but since this one credit card has 3 kids and the parents sharing it, the balances can some times get HUGE every now and then. Takes some figuring out to see if I'm causing the problems with applications or if her family is.
Of course, this is all through CreditKarma which isn't entirely accurate. I need to pull her report and see what is showing on it.
That's supposed to be the difference but as you can see above, some stuff is supposedly showing even though not a joint account(again, take CreditKarma with a grain of salt). Hence, why I'm about to go through the real reports.

No shite... If it helps her, great, but I don't want to hurt her. The only reason I am doing it is to get the 5k bonus pts.
btw, please go back and read my question to Bacon earlier about travel... Bc I think you travel a lot

Hell, I don't know what they are
I just logged into Capital One and it has him listed under
Not a "joint user" apparently. But it DOES show up on his credit report for 100% sure.

That's where you'd be wrong

I don't travel for work, but I do fly a handful of times a year and have a desire to fly internationally decently frequently as work allows. Which for me is one a year but with the future wife, more like every two years.
Plus all these stupid weddings I have to go to.
In any event, after I went to India this past August and did pretty well price wise using some points I had collected with my USAA card for 10 years, I decided to learn more about the credit card game and here I am....a junky.
The real issue for people like me is trying not to accumulate points TOO fast with no where to go/time to burn them. But if the game remains more or less the same into the future I don't think I'd pay more than 30% of any travel costs ever again.
ETA: saving points for an Africa or Thailand/Cambodia trip for Honeymoon so that is what all my CC games are for through 2014.

For what it's worth, I used to. I'd travel about 3 weeks out of every month on average. It was after I was divorced and figured it would be good for me. It was almost all domestic travel but I loved it. Saw places that I normally wouldn't have seen and probably would have never elected to on my own. Married and kids, I couldn't do it.
But if you're single I'd say go for it. You'll always have time to settle down later but you won't always have opportunities to get out and see the world.

This is my thought as well. Hell, no kids and make plenty of money/CC promotions to travel but the fiancee can't take off time like I can. Point of contention.

One of the jobs I'm looking at would be possibly a 15-20% decrease in salary... What I'm trying to weigh is happiness over money. Like I said, I'm miserable sitting in an office and when I can, absolutely LOVE working from home. The traveling would be an extra burden/blessing, depending on how you look at it. The SO may not like it and thats also something I have to way. My happiness over hers.
We shall see how it plays out

I have had the chase marriott rewards visa for 2 years and i have decided to switch after reading this thread and some of the linked sites. I will keep the card and use it for hotels when the wife and I travel (i have 150k points to spend)
I got the offer for 50k points for 3k in spending with amex gold. I put about 3k per month on my card.
