What course of action would you recommend for those of us who want to learn to program?

I haven't dug deep into it, but this looks like a good starting point.

How's the pacing on this Python course.?

About a year ago I started the MIT Python class on EdX and had to tap out three weeks into the course after spending nearly 10 hours on one problem set and not getting my work accepted. I think most people in the class agreed that it was very fast moving, even if you had programming experience (I had none).

Instead of EdX, you might look at MIT's Open CourseWare
No recognition for doing it, but no pressure either, and some of the classes have very complete material.

If you're looking for computation and programming classes in Open Courseware, most of them will be under Course 6 (EE and CS) and Course 18 (Math).

In particular, course 6.00SC is introductory Computer Science, taught in Python, for people with little or no experience. It includes video lectures, reading, problem sets and exams with solutions, and you do it at whatever pace you feel like.

sorry for the random bump, but I've always wanted to continue learning python (have a little bit so far from CodeAcademy, but got kinda busy). additional site like this seem pretty cool.
