I got a pair of waders as a gift last year that got a hole in them. I worked with the company to exchange them out under the lifetime warranty. They quit making the model I had, but offered an upgrade under warranty at no cost. They mailed the waders to me and there was nothing else.

Four months later I get a letter in the mail saying I owe them $190 or else they will report it to the credit bureaus.

Is there even a way for them to do this? I don't have an account with them, and I don't even have a card on file with them.

Get it cleaned up with them in writing. Send them a letter reciting the facts. Then call them to be sure they got the letter and see if it can get handled on the phone.

Even though you don't have a card on file, they have your name and address to file to Credit Bureau.

Unless they have your Social Security number, it cannot be put on your credit report.

How are they going to add to your credit report without an SSN?

They might send a collector after you.

Were you supposed to ship the broken ones back to them?

I would ask them to put that in writing then take them to court for making threatening accusations and attempting to extort money from you. Certainly they are breaking some laws.
