Can you transfer points from your chase sapphire account to your united account (or other airline) to get more bang out of your points? Anyone tried this?

Chase Sapphire Preferred yes. 1:1 transfer.

There are about 7 airline transfers and 5 or so hotel transfers.
United and southwest are the 2 best domestic transfers available.

Is that s better deal than the 1.5 bonus you get for booking travel through their website?

From what I've seen, yes

It typically depends.
The most value is usually derived from booking first or business class flights, but if you want domestic, economy flights, the value isn't nearly as good.
I fly mostly southwest so the points usually work out better after transferring for me but the value doesn't really change from flight to flight.

Good to know. Not sure I would have thought to check.

I'd probably just use a 2% cash back card if this is how you're using UR.

I mostly use my chase card for travel and food restaurant purchases anyway, so I'm getting 3x points on most purchases.
I would like to make an international trip in the next year or so also, so I've been banking some of the bonus.

Are we better off transferring points to British Airways if we want to fly in BA?
So my wife and I both signed up for the huge 100,000 point bonus. We have about 220,000 points and we want to use them to fly my inlaws to Europe to visit my sister in law. We would like to fly them on the new nonstop flight from NOLA to London on British Airways. Apparently there is a 1:1 point transfer from Chase to BA. Would we be better served transferring the points to BA? With Chase you get the 50% bonus through ultimate rewards, so I'm not sure what the best thing to do would be.

Amex has a better transfer when they offer bonuses.
You still have to pay the BA fuel surcharges if you fly into or through Heathrow.
BA Avios are always best used on AA and especially so for short domestic flights. It's a fabulous utilization.

Try all the carriers. Air France has some good deals too. And u can fly delta via Air France. I've seen trips from atl to Rome costing only 50k points. I've heard BA is not that good of a deal for long haul flights. Just got to do the research.
