Looking to buy a home in Birmingham area. Price range is250-325. Where to look for best value? What can I expect to pay per square foot in good area?

I would want a touch more info so I would know how to balance your work travel.
First picks for me: Chelsea, Helena/Alabaster, or Highway 280.
If that doesn't float your boat then check out Hoover, Mountain Brook, parts of Vestavia Hills, or 5 points.
Places to avoid: North of BJCC, West of 65 in Downtown.
[source:lived in Bham area for looong time.
I haven't broken it down by cost per unit, but these are the places you would want to live]

What about Oxmore Ridge. Looking at one for 325 , has 3200 sq feet. That's a good price, but it is the biggest in neighborhood and that always gives me pause.

its a nice best of both worlds scenario.
close to Hoover, Homewood, 280, southside, Trussville and the interstates.
not a bad place at all.
Birmingham area can be a fantastic place to live.

Trussville or Gardendale area I think Gardendale is very convenient to everything and not over crowded

Personally I would stay out of Jefferson Co. for several reasons unless I was in Vestavia, Mountain Brook or Hoover.
Much better bargains off 280: Meadowbrook, Brookhighland, off Valleydale Rd, Hwy 119, and Chelsea.
