Be on Lookout: Bogus Withholding Notices

The incompetence of the state of Louisiana strikes once again!

LDR did something with their billing system for state income tax withholding accounts, and it is now assuming some quarterly returns were not filed, even if they were. As such, the computer automatically sent out notices assessing an estimated tax of $999, plus penalties and interest.

Judging from the number of CPAs I've talked to in the last day and a half... it would not surprise me if thousands, or more, of these erroneous notices went out.

If you have your own corporation or S corporation, and pay LA withholding tax, you could end up getting one of these. You will need to give it to your payroll provider or CPA to get it fixed, or call the state and deal with it.
