I'm new to REI and am trying to research property deeds/past owners in East Baton Rouge. Where do you go to access these in real life and is it possible to access them online? Most other place have the documents available online but i have not found success for east baton rouge.

If there isn't an online option, you would need to go to the Clerk of Court and look at the records. The process is fairly straight-forward.

- The place I would start would be EBRP Tax Assessor's website. You can find the current owner of the property online through the tax assessor. That will give you a good starting place.

- If the owner is an LLC, you would need to do a corporation search on the LA Secretary of State's website.

- To double check your information, you can do a search at the courthouse (Clerk of Court). There should be a computer where you can put in the physical address of the property to pull the ownership information.

- Once you put in the address, you will either see the current owner and the corresponding book and page number of the volume the deed is located in. You could then do a search of the name of the person who the current owner purchased the property from. In that search you should find the transfer of ownership of the property and see who the seller was. From there, you just rinse and repeat until you go back as far as you would like.

Curious as to why you want to know past owners for real estate investing?
