Applying to Large Company (Online): Okay to Contact Local Personnel?

So I'm thinking about applying for a position at a local facility with a large company. The company has an online application process. I really hate these things.
Is it inappropriate to look up the local managers' names and try to make contact that way, after applying online?
I just feel the online process really sucks and I may have more luck with getting my info directly to their hands. But I don't want to overstep.
Anyone have any advice on this type of situation?

Definitely do it. It might now help on the front end, but it will help on the back.

Do it. It can't hurt. Usually they can't bypass the online application, but it can speed up the process once it's in there. HR usually screens the online apps first, so it may not get to them otherwise.
