I have no idea if RIM has a nice patent portfolio but outside of that why would a bigger fish want it?
their enterprise package that a lot of companies still rely on due to its proven and established security.

Who would buy RIM?
I'm sure most other cell phone makers are considering it. They will be bought eventually. Who knows when and what shape it is in by then.

Nokia is dying in smart phones and teamed with Microsoft, Apple is Apple, Android has Motorola, Samsung and others tied up so who needs RIM?
RIM was never going to be bought.
RIM was never going to be bought.

well I guess you shorted the hell out of them as they were running up the last few weeks right?

Nope.
Nobody wants a BB.
They were staples of enterprise and medical but that's just over.

If enterprise was all about RIM we wouldn't be having this conversation because RIM would be be rolling.

I laid out why no one would buy RIM. Tell me why anyone would outside of a patent portfolio.

They will be bought eventually. Some of their enterprise software will be a great resource to other phone manufacturers.
Just not anywhere close to the current valuation

Their proven enterprise security solution. Some companies still only offer BB devices to their employees. BB sales overseas in developing markets is strong.

You are right. I give up. RIM is awesome.

Wow. And you wonder why you are a joke. You don't know anything.

I don't disagree with anything he's said about RIM in this thread and I've been toting that same line of thinking for about 2 years now. Just sayin.

You don't think anyone would buy RIM? I get it my IT department sucks, but I gotta believe they would try someone else if they could provide a secure solution to our communication. Hell even the president uses a BB.

No, I don't think there's anything there but a giant sunk cost, a dying legacy brand, and a patent portfolio. RIMM is PALM, and I've been making that comparison since I said PALM would get vultured for its OS 2 years ago.
Could someone vulture up BB patents? Yes, I think that's possible down the road, but they're not going to do it to develop BB, they're going to do it to sue other people. I would think the HP/PALM fiasco alone would scare off any actual strategic buyers. The Company is too well capitalized and has too many assets to throw it into bankruptcy any time soon, but for the same reason preventing anyone from buying it without massively overpaying and taking enormous operational risk attempting to integrate it. MS has bought some pretty stupid shite, maybe they would.

Or maybe a buyout firm since they've got a ton of other people's money they need to spend and they can lever the shite out of the company since it has half decent cash flow and no debt.

Middle Easterners, Indians, and Pakistanis LOVE BB Messenger because of how secure it is. That part of the world is probably going to be a huge growth area for BB, especially considering the role it played in the revolutions over there and in the London riots.

Google has peaked under it's current structure and is adjusting it's entire model. Post all the emoticons that you want but it is scaling down.
My criticism of Google is that it has always kept 500 things on the stove and outside of search, Android and ads, all of them are always half baked and scattershot.
Google is figuring that out and slimming down.
Get back to your emoticons.
