2024-2025 FAFSA Confusion

My son just turned 25 and is in med school. He is getting loans for his tuition, but we pay all his living expenses. We have always claimed him as a dependent. The new FAFSA application says that since he was born prior to 1/01/2001, he qualifies as an independent student and will therefore qualify for significant grant money. Our accountant said this appears to be correct and that the benefits he will receive as an “independent student” will far outweigh the small deduction we get for him as a 25-year-old dependent. Anybody understand this differently?
Here is the government site that defines dependency status:

Seems pretty straight forward, he’s a med student so considered independent no matter his age.

They aren't connected. One could be a tax dependent but considered independent under FAFSA definitions.
