Yes, LSU has "quit" once before...

At the end of the 1969 season, when the Cotton Bowl passed over a 9-1 LSU team that had the best rushing defense in the country, a team undefeated Texas with its run-heavy Wishbone offense did not want to perhaps ruin its national title hopes, the team voted to not accept any lesser bowl bid. For those who were LSU fans back then, the 1970 Cotton Bowl was a major reason for disdain and dislike of both Texas & ND: the belief was that Texas ducked playing LSU, and that the Cotton Bowl (which had a lot of UT grads in its bowl committee) and ND were in cahoots.
Fans might recall this was in an era in which there were very few bowls, and a lesser bowl was very significant at that time.
So yes, there is history for LSU refusing post-season play.
I won't second-guess JJ - he was a good player for Dale and the Tigers many years ago. It's time for him to move on.

You picked the worst example ever. We got snubbed because Texas threw a hissy fit. The Cotton bowl comittee had all but already offered it to LSU only to back out at the last minute. We didn't quit, we were pissed

I was a student at LSU then and remember this.
Prior to the 1970 Cotton Bowl, Noter Dame had played in only 1 Bowl Game and that was 35 years earlier in 1935.

Stovall's 1980 team had a 7-4 record and also declined a bowl invitation. To the Peach Bowl if I recall correctly.

I was in graduate school at that time. Bowls couldn't officially issue bids until after the season, but everything was negotiated well before that time. The Cotton Bowl and LSU had a handshake deal before the official bids could go out. Before that time ND decided to end their band on bowls and they and the Cotton Bowl quickly made a deal leaving LSU out in the cold. All other major bowls were already filled. The Peach Bowl stepped in and offered LSU a slot - the Tigers had won the PB the year before, but the team choose not to accept that offer.

that team did not quit. there is no basis to compare that arse kicking football team and this pussy basketball team. these guys are fricking losers and quit half way thru the season. hell, they only played hard in a hand full of games.
quitters are quitters. don't slander the '69 football team because of these crybabies.
