That’s an interesting take since they are governed by the code of military justice and are considered to be on active duty.
Oh, yeah, they have to swear an oath to defend the country against all enemies. Only those considered to be in the military have to take such an oath.

They sign the dotted line when they enroll. They get a 4 year education and they are committed to 5 years of active duty. West Point Seniors are playing football this fall and they are active duty next fall.
