Beyond total defense here's Chavis' stats for sacks, TFLs, interceptions, FFs:

2008:

54th sacks
23rd TFLs
12th INTs
111th FFs

2007:

64th sacks
65th TFLs
35th INTs
73rd FFs

2006:

99th sacks
24th TFLs
21st INTs
109th FFs

Does well with INTs... that's about it.

Why does the last 3 year always get posted? The man has coached for 30 years........TENNESSEE has been on the decline the last 3 years.

the news that O would accept a DL job here is very encouraging. Hopefully he and Les can put the past behind him. We're going to need a recruiting machine like him

Yea if we land O I wouldn't mind if they hired Chavis. Chavis is an excellent LB coach and Coach O is a very good DL coach. Plus Chavis started coaching DL so I think our front 7 would be a drastic improvement. I am worried that Mallory could stick around and coach Dbs.

It is pretty clear that Peveto and Lane are out without a doubt.

I would rather the rumor of Chavis for DC and O Dline. Experience is the issue for me. LSU deserves a proven DC not another experiment but I"ll support LM until it does not work. (Next Year)

I don't think recruiting has been the problem at LSU.........O will only help that.......I want his intensity and emotion.

I met Coach O last year when visiting Ole Miss with a former LB. He and my wife are best friends. He drank an OJ while we had a beer after his radio show. Spoke a lil cajun french together. Cool guy.

What are you hearing right now? Is he coming to coach the DL, and be some kind of Asst. HC, or recruiting coordinator?

He makes 500k with the Saints, I believe, can we match that?

Man I hope this happens...

Yeah, I agree. But then again, I can't really remember any DE's of note out of UT in a long while.

They had Justin Harrell at DT a couple years ago who was a first rounder... but none of the DEs are really prominent.

Seems to do well with interior linemen though... put a lot of good DTs into the league. Gets a good number of TFLs.

Perhaps if Coach O came aboard as well he could supplement that?

i actually have his stats in total and scoring D for every year he was at Tenn and while he had some good D's, he never had a great one. the bottom line is that if you weren't content with pelini you're not going to be content with chavis because he's a clear downgrade. LSU could do better if they wanted to take a little risk and actually conduct a search before hiring someone

they say chavis also coaches from the box so we'd need Ed to be the on the field intense guy and held some of these guys accountable for their stupidity

I think LSU can match that if they want to win, easily. I think we should spend a mill at least between two huge names.

Ellis Johnson+Ed O on the DL would be fricking incredible

Tenuta+ Ed would probably be asking for trouble

Is there one person that thinks positive left around here...

You just want Saban back, pure and simple..

Because in your mind, he affects the QB on every play
