Again, I have read many times on this board people claiming Miles is 4-0 in bowls and Saban was 3-2, while at LSU.
There is no claim - this is a fact - given enough time - Miles game plans to decimate opponents and hence is 4-0. Saban has not done so. This merely means that when it comes to bowls Miles is the better pick.

In reality, I don't think anyone with any common sense on this board would claim Miles is a better coach than Saban. That said, bowl records are overrated. They are a nice stat, but mean very little in the long run. That was my entire point.
In reality , I don't think anyone with common sense should claim that Miles is a buffoon who should be in grade 1 while Saban is homecoming King but hey who the hell on this board goes for reality- its all about perception du jour.
That said - I really like the fact that Bowl records have become an irrelevant fact when they don't meet one's way of thinking or when they don't meet the criteria to judge superiority of one coach over another.

While bowl games are fun and awesome to watch, especially when LSU gets to play historic big name schools like PSU, they are still exhibitions UNLESS they are the NC game. BCS games are nice too, and give more notoriety, but again, outside of the NC game they are picked based on who will get them the most money.
This is entirely true - but that doesn't mean that someone (i.e. the coach) whose job is to win these so called marketing events should decide to cop out because they are not the NC. In fact given history very few coaches play for this year in year out. Hence ,for a coach, to decide nothing else is worth playing for is a slap on the face of the fans and more likely is an innate inability to prepare consistently given such time factors.
quote:
Miles is a good coach, but name ONE team that was actually better talent-wise than LSU in any of his bowl games? I'd hope given a month to prepare that we'd win the games where we have more talent and depth than our opponents.
Saban is a good coach and yet failed to beat teams (both in bowls and otherwise) that had lesser talent than his plenty of times and to lesser coaches as well ( in fact his every loss can only be to lesser coaches since there is no one better than him at all, ever)
quote:
In the end, Miles is a good coach, and I expect us to beat PSU. I just laugh at people talking about bowl wins as some great indicator. They aren't.
I do expect Miles, being a good coach and recruiter, to bitchslap PSU and I laugh at folks who cannot accept trends in bowls while at the same time looking and searching for trends in everything else.

1 more bowl domination in the peach/chic-fil-A bowl by Miles and they should name that bowl after him.
1 more bowl domination in the Suger/BCSNC game and they should name that bowl after him.
