JJ is more similar to Matt Flynn than he is to any other recent LSU QB.
JJ is a tall, rangy pocket passer who can run when he has to--just like Flynn.
JJ's arm is a little better than Flynn's was and for a freshman, he does a great job protecting the ball and not committing unforced errors. With the amazing talent Matt Flynn was surrounded by, "managing" the game became his forte' as well.
But Jefferson is pretty much the polar opposite of Jamarcus Russell, so I have no idea why anyone would even compare the two.
Oh wait--let me guess.

I hate to be mr. negative, but I wouldn't really label any of LSU's as GREAT.

that is a closer comparison than most on this thread, like you said both tall, can run if needed but not really fast, but i think JJ can throw it better, hope he can get a ring too

JJ is like a frankenstein of LSU QBs, Flynn's intangibles, Ro's leadership, Ryan11's mobility, Randall's needs-improving throwing motion, Herb's ability to start as a true freshman, JR's skin color and Shep's icon status. word.

So having a very successful career and becoming the #1 overall pick in the draft would not qualify as great?

i sure hope so
I think the X-factor with JJ will be confidence.
If the LSU coaches show the same patience and the the same margin for error with JJ that they showed with Hatch and JL last year, then he won't have to worry about being yanked as soon as he makes his first colossal mistake. And knowing that the coaches have confidence in him will eventually allow JJ to truly develop into a QB who can bring home an SEC championship.
And another crystal football would be nice also.

only problem with that is JJ has someone that more than likely wants his job back.. last season there was no one elese so staying with a guy when you wanted to spell with someone else wasnt an option.
You can not cmopare this season to last when taling about qbs...everything is different.

just because he wants it back doesnt mean the coaches are willing to give it to him.. they'll give JJ ample opportunity to prove himself but if he continues to make the same mistakes and shows no sign of improvement as JL did last season then we'll likely see a QB change but i doubt they'll yank him before giving him that chance

I will agree that LSU now has a much better/deeper QB roster than last year.
But I also feel that if Jordan can go out there and get the job done, and I personally think that he will, that's all that matters.
The only reason any coach should ever replace the starter at any position is if he truly believes he has a better player on the bench.
I have a hard time believing that Crowton/Miles feel that Lee, Garrett, or Shepard are better than JJ at this point.
I think JJ is the fix LSU was looking for at QB. And should that turn out to be true, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
