Why the turnovers mattered even though we didn't surrender points

Coming out of the half we had a significant advantage despite being down on the scoreboard which was the accumulation of offensive plays we ran compared to Kentucky. The defense gets a quick stop to start the 3rd quarter. A sustained drive there even if it only comes away with 3 points starts stacking the defensive fatigue factor heavily in our favor and has the opportunity to change the complexion of the second half completely. The fumble in the 4th quarter surrendered no points because of a missed field goal. But again, there was an opportunity to salt the game away on the drive where the fumble occurred. A sustained drive with a field goal makes them have to go for a TD in regulation.

I'm not saying those were the only things that cost us the game because they clearly weren't. I'm just saying we can't pretend that they don't matter. We really need to improve ball security down the stretch. And if Sam has any ideas about playing pro ball he needs to greatly improve ball security.

Of course. I'm just saying they had a bigger impact on the game than people are giving them credit for. It's easy to make a scapegoat out of Baker and he deserves his fair share of criticism for the late game debacle.

But yes, everything matters in football.
