I expect LSU to throw him some swing passes out the backfield and get him in open space.
This has happened twice already.

Good idea, but too late.

We have a history of using big bruising backs and Hilliard could definitely be that guy when Ware moves on.

I have wondered this very thing. But like someone said, it helps recruiting to see young guys get the chance to play. That way, if the freshman doesn't get many touches coach can always say "you had your shot".

For 3 touches all year?
I didn't realize the only time he has been in a game is when he carried the ball. That's a shame......

Through the first 5 games last year playing as FB and RB, Ware had a 1 rushing attempt and 2 receptions.

Through the Bama game (9th game of the season), Ware had 15 total touches between his rushes and receptions. For the whole regular season, he had 14 carries and 8 receptions and 1 pass. That's 23 touches in 12 games.

If Hilliard simply keeps up his current pace, he'll have 16 touches. That's assuming he won't get an increased load. A quarter of Ware's regular season touches came in the McNeese State game, so stop whining over just 3 games.

Freshman Kenny Hilliard has been getting snaps at fullback and at "big back" for short-yardage runs.

"He has the potential to be a very good fullback and big back," Miles said. "Jacob Hester started that way. He came in and played a lot of fullback, and got comfortable with contact and things we do. When we moved him to tailback, it showed, the maturity improved, and he was ready to play."

toosleaux, I agree with your statement.... We are so loaded at RB, why not hold a good one back a year, another year to develop... learn the scheme, get himself settled in the books(he has some type of LD), and he would have a full 4 yrs ahead... with our talent at RB, I cant see how using him now could be defended...

Magee is getting red-shirted.

We would've been in deep doo-doo if Ridley had been ruled ineligible for the Cotton Bowl and Ware hadn't received playing time throughout the year. Luckily, Ridley got cleared and Ware was ready for the big game.

Who would've thought both Scott and Williams would get knocked out 2 seasons ago. If the same thing were to happen to Ware and Ford, it would be the Blue and Gore show. Not too many folks on here would like that.

well if you think a player is good enough redshirting a player is essentially useless because you lose a year playing them if they are going to go in the NFL draft early.

I don't know why people are sweating Hilliard burning his red-shirt especially with Magee getting his. In a couple of years, the masses will hope Kenny would delare early and demand that Fournette take over the carries anyway.

You mean a safety that is big, can run fast and hit hard, and be suspect in pass coverage??? Yes those are once in a lifetime kind of guys!!!

Whoever thought that is an idiot...

Hilliard is a real runner. The other two are willing to "just" block.

Hilliard has a bigger upside.

Hilliard at FB is a extra weapon too. Pretty sure he has softer hands than people think. Him lining up in the backfield with Ware/Ford will create a extra layer later in the season.

We've been doing this since Saban was here. Addai, Scott, Hester, Ware, Broussard all played fullback their first year.

The transition from high school to college much less the SEC is a huge step. This way gets him use to real game speed. And gets him reps. Ridley did it, Ware did it, and now Hilliard is doing it.

The Miles approach to the depth we have in all positions allows for a different take on Red Shirting now.
