Rhymes is a better RBI hitter. I think Nola should bat second because he has a great OBP.
Fields could bat first. Jones does not walk and he strikes out too much for a leadoff hitter.

Fields
Nola
Katz
Rhymes
Jones
That would be sick.

Katz hits into too many double plays. If Rhymes batted in front of Katz, that would only get worse, IMO.

Another good point.
I understand that we probably shouldn't change things, because this lineup is working so well. I'm just pointing out that having your best power hitter hit in front of the player who gets on base the most is a bit unusual. So, I was looking for the reasons as to why Mainieri might do this.
Y'all have done a great job responding. Thanks.

A big thing I like about Paul Maineri is that he will answer the question if the media asks him. I feel that he "educates" us as fans, and we are able to learn more about the game when he gives us reasons behind some of his decisions. We don't always have to agree with them, but at least we get another way to look at certain decisions.
It's 100 X's better than, "I like both Katz and Rhymes skill sets. I think that they both give us the opportunity to be successful. They both have a want to drive in runs, and that is a special quality that is beneficial to our ball club. I expect that Rhymes will be getting more at bats soon."

Katz has more power.
You answered your own question. You protect your power bat so they don't walk him with first base open.
