Granted I have only been following LSU football since 2003. My question is - Have LSU teams always been like this for ever?

ESPN stats only go back as far as 2004 (all stats from espn's NCAAFB website), so here goes (yardage + ranking):

2004- (Randall and Russell) As a team, we were the #62 Passing attack- 2412 yards. You were an LSU fan at this time. If you remember any fans being happy with the QB play, you're wrong.

2005- Russell and Flynn) #35- 2912 yards

2006- (Russell, and a hint of Flynn) #20- 3272 yards

2007- (Flynn, RP)- #42- 3152 yards (worth noting that Flynn, the starter, went down/played hurt (ankle) in the season?)

2008- (Hatch, Lee, Jefferson)- #67- 2617 yards

2009- (JJ, JL) #92 2363

2010- (JJ, JL) #102 2023

Now let's take a quick look at total offensive rankings during this time (no yardage, just ranks, I am feeling a bit lazier than when I started this post):

2004- 30th

2005- 34th

2006- 14th

2007- 9th (at this point, I would like to add that Tulsa averaged 105yards/game MORE than LSU during our National Championship campaign. Their rank to end the season? 4 votes in the AP, 5 in the USA Today...for the 25th spot. They weren't even ranked)

2008- 51st

2009- 102nd

2010- 81st

What college football/QBs have you been watching cause one of the best around, Andrew Luck, averaged bout 250 ypg and less than 2 & 1/2 TDs per game last season?

It seems to me that Florida or Alabama or other SEC schools have no problems blowing away non-conference cup cake teams 72-10, 65-3 or whatever, but for some reason LSU has a problem doing the same. I don't get it.

Oregon put up 69 points yesterday...so what? Does it really mean anything after LSU shut them down the week before? Miles is not the type to run up the score, and if you noticed, all we did was pretty much run up the middle in the 4th quarter...lopsided wins against cupcakes are very overrated...

Here is my last post on this topic because there is no use arguing with you guys:

1. Show me where I said I want great QB play at the cost of winning championships? I never said that. It is what you rantards are saying or assuming I said. What I am saying is great defense/running games/championships and elite QB play don't have to be mutually exclusive. That's all.

2. The fact is that RP's dismissal from the team probably cost this team another championship (SEC at least, if not NC) which basically proves my point - which is that if you have good/great QB play coupled with great defense and running game, you have a high probability of winning championships more often than if you just had a great defense and running game with mediocre QB play.

3. I still wish Colt McCoy had come to LSU like he originally intended and also that RP wouldn't have fricked up.

4. Not sure why my following LSU football only since 2003 automatically disqualifies my from having an opinion. It is funny that most people saying that are 20-21 year old kids who themselves were in grade school back then.

5. Again the rantards are very easily get their panties in a wad if anyone dare question anything about any facet of LSU football. No wonder you guys are also the same people who don't want to blow out cup cake teams and also want to give trophies even to losing teams in kid's soccer games. The pussification of America continues.

6. I hope Mettenger will be a stud for us staring 2012 and beyond.

And here is to winning another championship this year

Peace. Over and out.

And I'd bet that over half the time they lose.

QBs that throw for 300-350 yds usually do so because they're playing catch-up.

I guess you can smell defeat.

But what are fans suppose to do?
Give up on the only QB's we have or turn on the coaches?

You think that QB stats (yardage totals) = good QB. It has more to do with offensive scheme. Take Lee and put him in a Mike Leach offense and he throws for 4k yards.

I'm still waiting for FACTS to back up your opinion. I've posted stats. Where are yours?

I'd love for LSU to have a stud QB, and Mett could very well be another one for LSU. JL was thrown to the wolves too early and I don't want to see that happen with Mett.

It hasn't been easy for any school to recruit one. Look at Texas post McCoy, Florida post Tebow, ect. As I pointed out earlier, Miles has recruited 2 5* QBs since he's been here, and no other school has been able to do recruit more. Of those 4 other schools, none of them have won a NC, plus Arkansas and Notre Dame have pretty much sucked.

I'll take what we have at LSU any day.

Have you noticed the running game? You expect to put up 200-250 rushing and 300 passing? Not going to happen.

Why not? A ton of teams did that yesterday

One of the stupidest posts I have ever seen on here. You sound like a whining butt hurt pussy. Plus you have no business calling anyone else a "ranter". Look in a mirror.

Wrong. First, LSU fans are NEVER content. Second, LSU fans first focus on EXECUTION. Does our team execute plays without making stupid penalties or turnovers.

As for passing the ball, after JLee's infamous pick 6 season where he regularly threw for three hundred yards a game, Les Miles decided that in the SEC, if your team doesn't have a run game, your team does not have a chance.

Around the nation, other teams with 300 yard quarterbacks do that to maximize their strengths and disguise their weaknesses.

LSU is playing old style Michigan football now. Run up your arse, then throw over the top. In the SEC, you throw screens to get your speed backs outside, then you go vertical with your wide receivers.

As long as LSU gives their best effort, and uses that to execute the best they can, they are going to win one hell uv a lot of games and that makes me happy.

Too bad you aren't happy. Go find a team that throws 300 yards a game and see how happy you are, then come back and give us a report ten years from now.

Go Tigers Go!!!

Oh, I also forgot to add, if Louisiana produces some of the country's best running backs year in year out, duh, what do you think we are gonna do, throw the football? No.

Run, baby, run.

Are we to uprise and take the team over by force? What have you done to prove you're not settling?

Exactly. Play to your strengths. Running the ball and defense.

We might see the playbook open next year if Mett can develop like he should.

I love 4 yards and a cloud of dust football. It wins, and when you wear someones arse out it turns into 10 yards and a arse whippin football. 200 yards passing is just fine by me.
