Someone posted that people romanticize the Saban years.
Could that be because there was a championship for the first time since Billy Cannon?
I remember the down years. I suspect that those who romanticize the Saban era remember what came before.
9-3 would have seemed pretty good for most of the time from 1973 on.

Yes followed by an abrupt divorce. That caused a lot of people to
1) Latch onto Saban
2) Latch onto his replacement, Miles as the good guy.
Its like LSU is the guy who dated the hot chick and got burned. Some guys afterwords fixate on her. Some go out and pick up a much less hot girl and make her out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread since she won't burn them like that first girl did.

Heck, LSU hadn't even played in the SECCG prior to Saban, let alone win an SEC title in 15 years or NC in 45 years.
LSU was coming off a 10 season stretch in which they had 7 losing seasons.
Romanticizing Saban. I actually think people romanticize DiNardo now after the success we've had form 2000-2007. Saban brought what LSU needed. Now we have Les Coker at the helm.

There's also a chance that's what they needed. They needed a kick in the arse to make them get up and play hard. It certainly seems not to have hurt them this year.
Uh, yea, right sonnyboy. You are not only stupid but willfully blind. Your attempt to justify nickthemidgets a-hole behaviour is pathetic.

So you think its hurt them? If he hadn't done that they'd be 10-(-2) this season instead?

I understand the "more you get, the more you want" thought process, but let's not forget that the "9-3" you spoke of was Nick's record his 5th last season at LSU.
Pretty much the same record for the 5th yr of each coach. Same # of titles and pretty much the same # of over all wins and conference wins. The only real difference is in the bowl record, but one is seen as God like and one is felt to suck.
Go figure..........

Saban won an extra SEC title at LSU. Miles has only won one in 5 years. He also had a losing SEC record last year.
The split between Miles first three seasons and last two seasons is remarkable.

Sonnyboy, if you think that nickthemidget's throwing the team and fans under the bus last year after bama got prison bitched by

Your attempt to connect the two is laughable. Just watch what happens if the gumps lose to UF or get bitch slapped by TCU or Cincy in their bowl game. nickthemidget will proclaim that it is the TEAMS FAULT they lost.

I understand...we got spoiled and I understand 08 was a sup-par yr for LSU.
My point was/is, if we look at the results, taking out opinion and seeing into the future, the two records are pretty dang close for one to be seen as God like and the other as bum like.

Well, Miles first three years were better than Saban's first three years. Better record, same number of SEC titles, a NC for Miles.
But Saban's last 2 seasons crush Miles 4th and 5th seasons. Overall 22-4 v. 16-8, SEC 13-3 v. 8-8. SEC, NC titles for Saban. Neither for Miles.
Saban seemed to have the program on an upward trend. Miles seems to be leading the program downward. This is all just results.

I guess that's one way to look at it or you could compare 08 to 09 and say that Miles seems to leading the program back upward. This is all just results.
I judge programs annually and off a coach's career. If you don't, what's the point? The program will always be in a decline unless he wins another title.

This is because most of us are able to watch the games, and see for ourselves the difference in the product on the field. There is a stark difference between watching a Nick Saban led LSU team perform and watching the last two years of Les' tenure at LSU.

That's why the splits between years 1-3 and 4-5 stand out so much. Going from 19-5 in the SEC to 8-8 in the SEC is a glaring trend.

Had saban lost his qb before the season of his championship run, I promise he would have lost at least four games... I believe we went through a period of hiring bad co- coordinaters and two freshmen qbs pressed into action too quickly... I now see us on the upswing again as we improved two games from last year... By the way Saban won one of those sec championships by going 5-3 in the SEC

when did we hate on saban when he was here?

Actually they look alot like nickthemidgets last team.

You do realize that you're probably the same height as "nickthemidget" right?

Can we stop blaming RP. He started exactly 2 games before his dismissal. This is a LAME excuse. I am simply pointing to what I see on the field. A Miles team is a disorganized mess. Plays always late getting in, countless formation penalties, horrific clock management and absolutely no attention to detail. I saw very little of this type of stuff under Saban.

Another big FAIL post from rtgr.
Your hatred of Saban is apparent, and I'm cool with that. I think Nick was a world class a-hole when he was here at LSU. I am willing to concede, however, that he was and continues to be a world class coach.
I consider Miles to be anything but world class. Here's a question for you, rtgr. Who's the better coach, Saban or Miles?
