No team wants to burn through a 5 or 6 game tournament the week before the real postseason starts. There is a trophy given out, but this week is merely an exhibition. The format is crazy, but without you could have a team like Kentucky playing 6 games in 6 days right before the NCAA tournament starts. No coach wants to do that.

Hard to complain about the format. Last year the format worked to LSU's advantage when they eliminated a 2-0 Arkansas on Saturday.

Miss St. if they come back in their bracket. Does a coach want to do this? No probably not. However, a 100% locked down bid into regionals is too good to pass up. Teams have been screwed out before.

Right, could have been 7. I was trying to see if there's a scenario to get to 8, but I guess not. And the championship has always been single elim, right?

We were discussing this format (single elimination weekend) against the old format.
