I'll post this again with the hope that we can just end this shite:

A history lesson. BTW....I know the equipment guy at LSU.

1) Clarence LeBlanc (a black defensive player) wore it for 4 years.
2) Matt Mauck wore it for 4 years.
3) Jacob Hester wore it for four years only because his High School #13 was taken by Corey Webster and some guy named Steve Mares, who was a WR. Hester never asked Mauck, they never played together.
4) Dickson picked #82 because his High School #41 was taken by Chris Jackson, and David Jones graduated. I know this because I know him.

Here's where this myth begins. After the NC game, Dickson asks Stringfellow and Miles if he can switch to #18. He and Hester are close, and he wants to follow.

It has nothing to do with any sort of tradition, or a reflection of how hard someone is working. Hester and Dickson were friends, and they are both white. The rest is just a figment of LSU fans' imagination.

Boom?

Ridley should get it if you want it to mean something.

Ridley is going to have a monster year next year.

Junior tight end Richard Dickson said the fact that he’s switched to No. 18 this season is part of a new tradition among the Tigers.

Dickson said former LSU running back Jacob Hester, who wore No. 18 last year, asked Dickson to make the switch this year from the No. 82 he wore last season.

Turns out, former LSU quarterback Matt Mauck bequeathed the number to Hester when Jacob became a Tiger.

“Hopefully it’ll become a tradition,” said Dickson, who said he doesn’t have his eye on any potential No. 18s out there. “Hopefully I can fill Jacob’s shoes.”

Not sure I agree with baloo that it needs to be limited to an offensive player. Don't know if he'd switch (or if he'll be back for that matter), but my nominee would be Chad Jones.
