Clemson did not use Tiger Rag as its fight song until 1942,
Don't know when it was first played at LSU, but here's a blurb in my Dad's 1937 Gumbo:
quote:
Rivaling the gridiron spectacle was the audience that packed the stadium week after week. . . . zenith came at the Tulane game, when 45,000 cheering fans filled every inch. They saw a brilliant show, gave a better one. Necks craned to see the Bonnettes swing to "Tiger Rag".

Tiger Stadium was originally "Deaf Valley"
Because Clemson already used "Death Valley"
Deaf became Death due to media misinformation, and it stuck.
LSU is the Original Tigers, though, with history.

LSU without a doubt

"Hold that Tiger" - is part of the "Tiger Rag", which was recorded in 1917 by Dominic La Rocca in New Orleans.
LSU can trace its roots to a field artillery regiment stationed in New Orleans after the Civil War.
How is Clemson's history connected to the song?

Who named their field "Death Valley" first?
Clemson
Who has the strongest tradition of winning football?
LSU, of course.

Sorry douche. The actual "death valley" was found in 1906 out west, while LSU was founded in 1811. Death Valley in B.R. came along one year after in 1812.
WTF?
LSU was not in Baton Rouge in 1812. Put the pipe down.
I like all the other comments. Clemson has a better claim to Death Valley than us regardless of who tried it first.
Tiger Rag...all I can say is Ive seen Clemsons band perform. It truly is sad. Ive seen High School bands that would blow them off the field. Therefore in my humble opinion they have no right to make any claim related to music...yes they are that bad.
As far as us stealing anything from Clumpson, bullshite, any body that says otherwise is either misinformed or a moron.
Clempson stole all their football from Auburn, colors, mascot and the coach. We already had our colors and mascot before they had a frickin team.

Tiger Rag - MOST CERTAINLY belongs to LSU.
you ought to look into it and see how many universities / colleges with the nickname of "Tigers" play Tiger Rag...you just might be surprised...

How many of them can trace their history back to the city where that song was written?

The grants were approved in 1811 and it all started there. The actual campus was built in 1874. Through those 60+ years traditions were developed including that of Death Valley. Do your research before acting like a badass.

And yes, LSU did start in Pineville.

So just what are the traditions, specifically 'Death Valley' during the time period of 1811 and 1874?
Keep im mind that we didnt get to the present site until the 1920's. bplease explain.
Also keep in mind who the first superintendent was....William T Sherman. Please explain.
Ps the 1811 date you reference was for us grants there was one back in 1806 that you may want to incorporate into your argument. However most people trce the start of LSU back to the seminary in Pineville that Sherman was super at.
Im not trying to be badass, its just....well your statements are halfbaked, halftrue and stretched just a tad.

LSU started in New Orleans???
Began as Louisiana Seminary of Learning, modeled after VMI, in 1860. Located in Pineville. Read the book "Under Stately Oaks" published by the LSU Press.
