UGA and the cowboys.

Not nearly as much as LSU, but I've seen them run it.

Thats right the Tailback gets ball a little deeper in the backfield to get eyes upfield sooner and it allows qb to block the de or the lb chasing down the play from behind allowing the tb to stop and cut back or set up his blocks. Disadvantage is ball is in the air and u cant play action off of it.
Maybe it is Worthless to u, thats your opinion. Kinda like the extra yard markers and the 2 pole white goal posts and wearing white at home.

QB can also seal the backside backer which becomes a numbers advantage for the offense. That's why they run it

The numbers advantage is for the defense because all 11 defenders know where the ball is a half a second after the snap.

Well then just run the wildcat and don't chance a bad toss.

UGA use to but they gave it up after seeing it is pointless.

Les got the play from Richt. In 2008 matchup, Knowshon had three long runs, including a TD, off the play. On each occasion, Moreno was able to make slight cut at or near the LOS allowing for the big gain.

And the LSU toss dive was born.

I've seen other teams run it but I've seen no one that uses it as the base play of their offense as we do. It's not just because of LF because we've been doing it a long time.

Whether that is good or not is I guess open for debate.

I tend not to like it because it eliminates effective play action. But when you can physically manhandle the other team, like we obviously could against TT, you could pitch it, hand it or get it to LF any way you want and we will run effectively.

Any play works when you can block it. John Curtis won the most state title running simple plays since they out man just about every team. Too bad we can't out man teams like Bama, Arky and Ole Piss.

The pistol formation would be more effective.

LSU had the #1 rushing offense in the SEC. I would say whatever formation we used was effective.

The play has been effective for lsu. When someone complains and acts like it is terrible play, it helps make it easier to point out the people you can't take serious in football duscussion.

What's wrong with the question High C?

Other than the fact that discussion of the use of this play has been beaten to death, nothing.

A pro to the toss dive is that it allows the back to get the ball quicker, and completely focus on looking upfield without having to worry about a handoff.

A major con is that it tells the defense that it is a running play way early, and doesn't make them have to account for play action.

I am in no way bashing the toss dive

seems like everyone else does. the toss dive is a VERY effective play for LSU. it works because of the timing and because of our RB's hitting the hole quickly.

many on the rant use it as their "poster child" of a predictable offense but they are wrong as can be. we are predictable but that has zero to do with this play.

Its been effective for LSU, but my biggest beef with the play is you cannot run play action off of it. With the amount of times we run the football and the calibur of RB that is in the backfield, play action passing can be VERY effective. Our play action passing involves the QB to turn his shoulders or mimick a toss....which rarely fools the defenders.

Play action passing is an area LSU could easily excel at, but choose not to. It's almost as baffling as the inability to get the TEs involved in the passing game.
