The donors to athletics are dwarfed by the donors to academics, and corporations are dwarfed by individuals.
Emmet and Toni Stephenson are #1 on the list.
They gave $25 million to LSU a few years back.
No one else even comes close.
LSU has many generous donors... but if you're looking for the top donors to LSU, don't even bother looking at athletics, and look outside the usual five names or so that usually crop up. The big fish are people you've likely never even heard of.

I was talking with MG Richard about this about 3 weeks ago during a charity event for wounded warriors and he said that one of the reasons for TAF is for them to manage the money through the program so that compliance is kept. He evidently runs the program like he did in the military and does not let a "Booster" donate money to any type of athletics without going through TAF.
Also, he provides "mentorship" through the TAF with other older students and professional guidance/educational counselors through the education center. Again, money for this goes through TAF/Athletic program/School so compliance is kept.
This was intereting for me as I didn't know the real purpose of TAF, but with all this stuff coming out now from other universities..seems like a good idea.

I've always heard the Ourso family is on the list as well. Pretty sure Bill Borne (Amedisys CEO) is on there too.
